I know you’ve all heard the saying, ‘When life gives you lemons, make lemonade’, but what about when life gives you artichokes? Or sauerkraut? Or even tofu? Well when life gives you something different or unexpected – you adjust!
Exit Closed Ahead
How many times have you sent someone to the grocery store for you with a specific list of items only to get your groceries and it’s all wrong. Dinner time is fast approaching so there’s no time for another store run – you get in your thinking mode and figure out how to make it work, you adjust. Take a look at some of what happens when you don’t adjust: you stay hyper focused on what you wanted/expected, you stay in a continual state of frustration, no one eats that night, and worst of all – it’s nearly impossible to move forward.
There’s nothing wrong with being disappointed or frustrated when things don’t go as planned, but staying in that state nearly paralyzes your well being and your ability to be in control. Imagine being driven in a car around a roundabout, there are exits available but your driver will only turn left. You have no choice but to go around and around the same place until your driver takes an available exit. How much control of your life and emotions will you have if you allow frustration and disappointment to drive you? I tell you one thing, you’ll get dizzy – that’s for sure!
Self-Check Time
Take a moment and think of your own life. Within the month, how many times have you faced something that you weren’t expecting or prepared for? How did you respond to it? Did you become frustrated? How fast was your recovery time? How quick were you able to adjust? Start asking yourself these questions more often to evaluate your own ability to adjust. You’ve got the power to keep moving forward, it might take a little creativity but you can do it. You’ll have to let go of having EXACTLY what you wanted and working with what you have to keep moving forward😊
